True Love and Craigslist

July 30th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

Oh Craig Newmark , you are my muse, my beautiful chubby cupid. Do you remember that time we ate pancakes together for that Bay to Breakers brunch at your girl’s house? I do. And there are some things I haven’t told you. For one, you’ve gotten me every apartment I’ve found in San Francisco. Second, you’ve helped me find a job at least twice and have been responsible for numerous interviews. Finally, your personals section is probably the best source of online dating I’ve ever seen. While I’m currently in a relationship, seeing random posts like this reminds me that are many, many fish in the sea. Thank you for the jobs, the housing/apartments, and for everything behind the "you must be 18" warning. I love you!

The Virgins at Cafe Du Nord

The Virgins at Cafe Du Nord

The Virgins are a newish rock band out of Manhattan. I’ve been in love with their EPĀ  (favorite track: Fernando Pando). If you listen to them, be sure to check out both the EP and full length versions of their songs. Last night’s crowd was sure to call out "EP version!" before a few songs, especially Love is Colder Than Death. The Virgins will be headlining at the Fillmore October 13th, and I’m wondering if they’ll have more than 45 minutes of music to play…

I liked the Dark Knight ad campaign

July 21st, 2008 | Category: work

OK, since I’m in the advertising biz, I will say that I’ve liked the Dark Knight ad campaign. I actually thought the Domino’s Gotham City TV and online bits were pretty cool, and even promoted the movie for me. Prior to seeing the movie last night, I ordered a pizza "cloaked in pepperoni" with wings and some garlic bread this weekend…and then went online to find that my 10K prize would have been delivered to my door upon ordering. Maybe I shouldn’t have called back when I was on hold that first 5 minutes. I don’t know.

Also, I’m impressed that Batman Begins and a bunch of exclusive content was available on Comcast "On Demand" during Batweek, and that I’d already seen the first 10 minutes of the Dark Knight as a movie trailer earlier in 2008.

If we’re going to make advertising 2.0 happen, it will be like this. Experiential and exclusive content, available through specific channels.

Of course, I loved the movie ; )

As requested: 5 of my favorite songs for a foggy SF day

July 16th, 2008 | Category: music

5 of my favorite songs for a foggy day in SF:

  1. Whenever you see fit (modest mouse / 764-HERO) - it’s haunting and i was listening to it when i first moved to SF. on the #21 Muni.
  2. Everyday is like Sunday (Morrissey) - about a “seaside town that forgot to close down”
  3. Anenome (Brian Jonestown Massacre) - BJM is a Bay Area band and this song is moody and haunting
  4. Send in the Clouds (Silver Jews) - the upside of bad weather
  5. Miss You (The Concretes’ cover of the Rolling Stones song) - because there’s always someone with whom you’d like to enjoy the upside of bad weather. where are they?

Millions of Us’ new business: Virtual Greats

July 14th, 2008 | Category: work

Millions of Us sent out a press release today announcing Virtual Greats, a company that will use IP from estates/brands such as Elvis Presley and Paris Hilton to create and sell virtual goods in worlds such as Gaia online. From my experience working on World Wrestling Entertainment in Gaia at MoU, and seeing a great number of virtual item downloads from WWE stars John Cena and Randy Orton, I’m curious to see how this will turn out…

What do you guys think? Do you think someone or a company will pay for limited edition Paris Hilton avatar thongs to be sold across multiple virtual platforms? Have you ever paid for a Facebook item or know someone who did?

See the story here .

My Finetune Playlist

July 02nd, 2008 | Category: music

I just reorganized my music collection…autobiographically…so figured this would be a good time to make a playlist of songs I’ve always loved. Currently getting into TV on the Radio and My Bloody Valentine. And checking out the new Wolf Parade album in anticipation of the Fillmore show in July.
